Jeremiah 46:28
Do not be afraid, Jacob my servant,
for I am with you," declares the Lord.
"Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you,
I will not completely destroy you.
I will discipline you but only in due measure;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished."

The Lord declares there will always be a remnant of His people, even though He will punish those who are disobedient to His commands. Lord, help me/us to remember that as we are obedient to Your commands to us, You will never forsake us. Amen

Can't add much here Lloyd as we have just about the same thoughts, the discipline of God serves a purpose, and its for our own good. Hebrews 12: 10-11 They disciplined us for a little while they thought best: but God disciplines us for our own Good, in order that we may share in His Holiness. No Discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a Harvest of Righteousness and Peace for those who have been trained by it. Blessing my brother on this Beautiful Day the Lord has made.

Yes, Peter, my parents raised me under a method of accountability for my action, which MANY children today are not. We have a friend who is a teacher and today kids get away with cursing at her and she can do nothing but send them to the office. In my day there was the strap for such an event and then I'd have to face mom and dad when I got home, on top of it all. God bless and have a great weekend.

The Lord gives His assurance that He is with us through the fiery trials. He is working for His good pleasure as well as for our well-being. He goes before us and destroys the enemy to make way for us. He provides salvation among the ungodly nations. He loves us like the best father by disciplining us so that we will turn to Him with reverence. He shows us the way to go and leads us to walk in it. Although we are still with sin in these earthly bodies, he still loves us and will save us from eternal destruction while destroying those who do not turn to Him for salvation.

The Lord, our God, is always with His servants and, although He will utterly destroy those that are not with Him that surround His servants, He will never completely destroy His own. On the other hand He will punish us when we stray from the way He wants us to go, but He will only punish us to the degree called for by our offense(s). Even though we are His children, His servants, He will not let us go unpunished if we sin against Him.

This is comforting to know that even when complete destruction befalls us, God is always there watching over and protecting His own. He loves us and doesn't want to punish us. But He's also just and MUST punish our sins. He's not up in heaven holding a club over us, just waiting for us to step out of line. Just look at how patient He's been with Judah, warning them over and over. But even in His judgement, He's merciful and keeps His eye on each and every one of His kids. Thank You, Papa God for Your unfailing love that is both merciful and just. If You weren't just, heaven would be no different from Earth.

Lately I have been trying to understand how people (of the world prior to Christ) get saved. By Faith? For example did all these Babylonians and people in Egypt have opportunity to be saved or were they just used and destroyed. I know that God often demonstrated to his people and to those around that He was God and "they will know" that He is God by His power but if this was God's means of salvation then very few would be saved. Many seem to have been destroyed "innocently" as many children and people are today? I guess God has away of figuring out by examining their hearts who is in and who is not?

Donna N. from Orlando, FL said:
Yes. Allan, that's the 64,000 question. A lot of heathens use that as their excuse to not accept Christ. Funny, that you, with all this Seminary training you're going thru would be the one to ask that question.

Unfortunately we get to grapple with a lot of stuff that you just don't think about when you simply believe and take the Word literally (in most cases). I have to come to conclusions on 1Pet 3:18-20 on to whom, where, and what Jesus proclaimed.. Then I started thinking about everyone pre-Jesus Christ. No doubts but still how wondering how God deals with all the "unchosen". Were their spirits in that crowd when he was proclaiming? Did they all have a chance to respond by faith like Abraham, as we all do now? I know all mankind are without excuse (Romans 1) but still would like better understanding. I will see what some of the profs say?
Lloyd S.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Yes, Allan and Donna, it sometimes causes us to ponder but I believe God is just and will, as you have stated, likely have had opportunity just as Abraham did, to trust by faith, what God was saying. God bless you Allan and Donna.
Nancy M.
Nancy M. from Runnemede, NJ said:
This means that Abraham’s physical descendants are not necessarily children of God. Only the children of the promise are considered to be Abraham’s children. For God had promised, “I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” This son was our ancestor Isaac. When he married Rebekah, she gave birth to twins. But before they were born, before they had done anything good or bad, she received a message from God. (This message shows that God chooses people according to his own purposes; he calls people, but not according to their good or bad works.) She was told, “Your older son will serve your younger son.” In the words of the Scriptures, “I loved Jacob, but I rejected Esau.” Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not! For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it. For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh, “I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.” So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen. Well then, you might say, “Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?” No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?” When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into? In the same way, even though God has the right to show his anger and his power, he is very patient with those on whom his anger falls, who are destined for destruction. He does this to make the riches of his glory shine even brighter on those to whom he shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory. And we are among those whom he selected, both from the Jews and from the Gentiles. Romans 9:8-24 NLT
