Nehemiah 3:5
The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.

Notice the only "but". Everywhere else along the wall the work was done and they seemed to operate as a team. But here, the "nobles" didn't do their share of the work. I guess this type of labour was beneath them. They are too good for this type of work. I would imagine Jesus being right in there lugging the stones alongside everyone else despite being King of the Universe. He was a servant leader as was Nehemiah.

Amen, Allan. It is amazing how there's always a portion of the body that seems to think their above the others but they need to remember that Jesus is the final judge. God bless.

Nehemiah 2:5
and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it."

I am impressed by Nehemiah in his fear, yet boldness, makes request of the king to allow him to go and rebuild the wall, receiving favour, protection and resources. However, note that he did spend much time in prayer and fasting with tears before ever approaching the king and letting him know what was troubling him.

Yes, Allan, Nehemiah sought God's favor before he even approached the king. Good lesson for us, when we desire something, to petition and seek God's favor. God bless.

Nehemiah 1:7
We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

A prayer we can all pray on behalf of our own country and like Nehemiah, include ourselves in asking for forgiveness.

Amen, Allan. Our nation surely needs to come to confession and repentance for turning away from Him, and the body of Christ is a good place to start. Iy brings to mind 2 Chronicles 7:14-15. Every Province and Territory in Canada was founded by believers but over the years has turned away from Him. I pray daily for our government and the people to hav2Ch 7:e an awakening. Good to have you back Pastor Allan. Been a while since I've experienced your posts. God bless.

Zechariah 13:2
"On that day, I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more," declares the Lord Almighty. "I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.

Deceptive prophets, the spirit of impurity will be removed from the land. I know this is for Israel many years ago but are we unknowingly (or knowingly) still being deceived in our age. Father in heaven please protect your children and keep us pure and do what ever is necessary to cleanse your land and your people. I wish I had more time to study and better understand the book of Zechariah. I feel as if I have only been glossing over its contents and not seeing how it applies to my life today.

Zechariah 12:9
On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.

Allan S.
Allan S. from Southampton, ON said:
God will protect Israel (Jerusalem) "on that day". I believe we should be on their side and not against them if we do not want to be destroyed and considered as a nation who attacks Jerusalem..

who deserts the flock!
May the sword strike his arm and his right eye!
May his arm be completely withered,
his right eye totally blinded!"

The Lord their God will save his people on that day
as a shepherd saves his flock.
They will sparkle in his land
like jewels in a crown.

We can use the gospels of John because we have been saved to sparkle on our land like jewels in a crown. Let's sparkle!

Zechariah 8:23
This is what the Lord Almighty says: "In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, 'Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.' "

This is what the Lord says is written 10 times in this chapter (if I counted correctly). Ten promises. All good. I wonder if we as believers will see others wanting to jockey to get close to us and be with us because God is with us who is the answer. Let's walk in the Spirit and let our light shine before men. Jesus is Lord of all!

Zechariah 7:10
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.'

Allan S.
Allan S. from Southampton, ON said:
This is something that always seems very important to God both in the Old and New Testament. In our county we have let the government take over this role through welfare, etc. We as God's people need to play more of a role in helping the widow and orphan, demonstrating our love (His love). Let's ask ourselves if there is someone I can adopt, help, and support?

Amen, Allan. However, there are those who take advantage of the giving. My wife and I experienced it not long ago but the taking advantage came back to bite the individual and hopefully a harsh lesson was learned. God bless you, Allan.

Zechariah 6:15
Those who are far away will come and help to build the temple of the Lord, and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the Lord your God."

I must admit the prophecy in Zechariah is difficult to understand and to see how we might apply it to our lives. Like all prophecy, it is good to know that God still speaks to us through His word. We are warned of those things we are doing wrong and that we should repent. If we don't, trouble is around the corner. However, God always has his plan to redeem those who turn to Him and receive His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. We also get the Holy Spirit that fills us and teaches us and guides us and comforts us and empowers us and sanctifies us. As believers we are so thankful to be called God's children.
