Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Jovita T.
Jovita T. from Ennis, TX said:
Once we know we have done something wrong it is this feeling that comes up on us. So in our wrong doing God comes and gives us wisdom to know that it is wrong and we should stop. Then that's when the Holy spirit steps in and sets us right.

As we fear (honor) the Lord we gain understanding and walk uprightly, for we follow His ways in righteousness. Thank You, Lord for giving us the direction of Your truths. Open the spiritual ears and eyes of those who are not yet in Your kingdom, that they may realize their need of Christ in their lives. Amen

The fear of the Lord is the beginning; wow, just the beginning of wisdom. Understanding' which reminds me of the song "what's it all about Alphi?" It's all about the Holy One-knowing Him-that's understanding. Also look at Prov.1::7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowlege, yet fools despise wisdom and instruction" Psalms 14:1 states "The fool has said in his heart "there is no God" Our world views those who follow God are the idiots, and those who trust their own human wisdom as the intellects. Thank you Jesus for your Word and Your love for us. Yet, I must ask myself; is my life truly reflecting what I say I believe' Am I truly a witness for our Lord Jesus in my word and deed? Convicting.

Sometimes you know you have respect for God and His Word, you are asking Him and doing your very best to wanting to have His wisdom, and knowing WHO God is and what He can do helps us to understand our Christian Walk with Him more and more. God sees your heart, and He knows your love for Him. He sees where your heart is and when you are doing your best to be a great witness for Him to speak through you to someone else. You show good character and witness for Him through your words and what you do and how you act in front of people. The devil will always make you wonder and doubt yourself, your faith, your trust, and anything that has to do with God and your godliness because he wants you to feel like you are not really a child of God so you question yourself right into doubt and fear. Then worry and anxiety comes in. Then depression and feeling alone come in. When you start to doubt yourself, STOP, ASK God why your feeling this way, and CLAIM your Salvation in Jesus! Tell the devil that you know you are not perfect and so what if you make mistakes! You are a blood bought Child of God and you are leaning to the One WHO is perfect, and that is JESUS CHRIST YOUR BIG BROTHER IN HEAVEN, YOU HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN AND JUSTIFIED BY HIS PERFECTION WHEN HE DIED FOR YOU! If you do not stand your ground through Jesus to him, he will always try over and over again to try to make you feel you are a failure to God! AMEN!

The fear of the Lord is wisdom and as we have wisdom we will learn more. As we learn more, we understand more easily the ways of the Lord and He blesses us more, because we have learned to trust Him, which in turn pleases Him. Therefore wisdom builds upon wisdom. Help me/us, Lord, to fear You, that we may become wiser and wiser in Your ways. Amen

Yes, Donna, both good and evil can increase in size like a snowball rolling down a steep hill, but God gave us free will so we get to choose which snowball is growing bigger and bigger in our lives.

Proverbs 9:10 (KJV) was one of the first scriptures that I memorized when I accepted the Lord 41 years ago. Only the foolish live without fear of the Lord. Fearing the Lord doesn't mean being afraid of the Lord but rather it's a reverent fear out of respect for His power and for the love He has for us. The fear of the Lord is not a fear to be dreaded, but a fear to be desired and longed for. Verse 6 also speaks volumes to me because it's only when we forsake the ways of the world, the foolish things, and live for the Lord that we truly live and live eternally.

Hi Sharon. Interesting that your first memory scripture was Galatians 5:1. Most people would say that John 3:16 was their very first scripture memorized. I think that John 3:16 is the scripture that most people can quote. Just curious, what Bible translation are you using? I prefer the King James but the language is difficult for many to understand, especially for babes in Christ.

That is an excellent explanation of the "fear of the Lord" Jerry. Some do not understand that and think they must be afraid of the Lord but as we honor his commands, that is true fear of the Lord. I too have gone back to the KJV for the most part and sometimes check others if I have any doubts. God bless you.

Good evening Lloyd, I prefer the KJV for my personal Bible reading, devotionals, and in-depth Bible Study, but often use the NIV, NASB, or the NLT, when writing for publication because those translations are much easier for the new believer to understand. One problem that I have with many writer who share the Good News through the written word is that they write using a vocabulary that only the Bible scholars can understand. That was a hard lesson for me to learn too when I first started writing for publication, even when I wrote tech manuals for the electronics industry, I used language that only another engineer could understand, I struggled to overcome the need to show off and write using words that a technician could understand. When I started writing for Christian publications with a lay readership, I had it a little easier because I remember how Jesus used parables about everyday things that the people could understand to teach them about spiritual things. I guess that I said all that to say that reading the Bible doesn't do the reader any good if he or she cannot understand what they are reading. I usually recommend the NLT for the new believer.

Good point Jerry. I would have to say that my personal favorite is the NKJV as it capitalizes words like Him when it comes to reference to Jesus, to show that they are referring to God and not just man.. There surely are reasons for using other versions and as I said, I use them if what is being said is not clear. God bless.

Good morning Sharon, I probably have a dozen or more different translations of the Bible on my bookshelves, but when I'm researching Scripture for an article that I'm writing, I prefer using Bible Gateway on line because I can view any number of translations side by side instead of having to refer to different printed translations of the Bible. Bible Gateway is a good resource for every Christian because you can locate scriptures by chapter and verse references, as well as by doing key word searches. I have found Bible Gateway an indispensable took. Here's the link if you want to check it out https://www.biblegateway.com

It does take a bit of investigation Jerry. One thing, if you go to Bible in upper left you'll find a link that says search and a screen will pop up and you can type a phrase in that you want I find it a great help when I know a phrase but forgot where it is. You can download the different versions you want and the different commentaries. PS: Don't miss the Holy Ghost Documentary film within the next day. Here's the link, really interesting.
