Every student of the Word, every teacher of the Word, every minister and pastor of the Word of God, every missionary, needs the anointing of the Spirit of God in order to proclaim the truth. As the context tells us, that won't mean that we have no opposition, but it does mean that we can reflect the Spirit of Christ (v.15) during the adverse circumstances!

People often oppose those of us who speak of Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives us power to overcome our adversary, the devil. Even in death Stephen rejoiced because he knew he had a new home waiting in heaven !!

So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.

There's a great principle here that we don't need to overlook. Peter and John knew they had to have the man's attention first. The lame man looked--focused--at them, and he expected to receive something from them. Apply this to worship or Bible study for success. Focus on the Lord and expect to receive from Him!

This entire chapter is so rich. I love it because it's one of the "I AM" passages identifying Jesus as God. It's also a great chapter on the security of the believer. I love the relationship pictured between the shepherd and his sheep; that's a great comfort!

We too will have to give an account of what we have done with all that the Lord has given us. And that's a sobering thought.

So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
Jackie C.
Jackie C. from Somewhere said:
True riches then are not tangible material riches. There is a connection between the way we handle our material resources and the blessings of spiritual riches that God bestows upon us. I believe we are to remember Esau in connection with this verse.

I am reminded of John 1:12 as I read these words--"As many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God". We are reminded of the humility that our Savior always displayed, that Paul describes in Phil. 2:2-9.
