Jesus is the good shepherd. Working around livestock, I have seen animals come at the owners voice or even the shaking of the feed sack. As sheep, we need to hear the Master's voice and come as commanded. Also when attackers come, the good caretakers will defend the life of the stock. Jesus defended and assumed our sins as He gave his life for ours.

This entire chapter is so rich. I love it because it's one of the "I AM" passages identifying Jesus as God. It's also a great chapter on the security of the believer. I love the relationship pictured between the shepherd and his sheep; that's a great comfort!
