I think Jesus was teaching us to always compare what we hear with the word of God because the world is full of many deceivers who only speak on their own ,they make up their own rules and twist Gods word for their own purposes. Jesus is teaching us to be careful because the enemy is clever and will try to lead us astray if he can.
