Proverbs 18:24
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 18:24 – Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me friend. Lord, You were the one that initiated our friendship and You are the one that holds our friendship together. So many times my eyes and heart have wondered off in another direction, but You continue to embrace me as Your treasured possession. Never will You leave me, never will You forsake me. I am in You and You are in me, nothing can ever separate me from Your love.

"One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruins...: this speaks volumes for every Christian, we must choose our friends wisely, choosing fellow believers, brothers and sisters in Christ, people who share our love of the Lord. This is even more important for babes in Christ who are not yet strong enough in their walk with the Lord to resist the temptations they will face when associating with, socializing with unbelievers. "...but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Yes, every born again Christian has a friend that sticks closer than a brother, that friend is our Lord and Savior Himself, Jesus Christ. Like the hymn goes, "What a friend we have in Jesus."

Yes, Jerry, we're more easily affected by those around us than we know, but Jesus is the bestest friend ever.

The problem is that there are so many "baby Christians" who are out there and so few "mature Christians"! It seems like so much emphasis is made on "saving others" and very little about "teaching the babies".

So many of us go to church on Sunday and don't realize that in order to have an intimate relationship with the Lord you have to spend a lot of time in the Word.

I couldn't agree with you more Sharon. The reason that there are more "baby Christians" then there are "mature Christians" and the reason for that is that soul winners are not taught that they have a responsibility to disciple every lost soul they lead to Christ. Discipling new Christians involves many things, teaching them the basics of their new found faith (I teach a 16 week course for new Christians called "The New You & The Holy Spirit) to give them a solid foundation to build their walk with God on. The soul winner has an obligation to get the Babe in Christ connected with a Bible teaching based church and a group of fellow believers to worship with. It is the responsibility of the soul winner who then becomes the new Christian's mentor to teach them the importance of prayer life, of having a daily devotional time, and of having a daily, in-depth Bible study, I emphasize the use of a study plan that allows the student to read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation every year. My church actually has a program that actively works to get the new Christian connected with all the church's activities and not just Sunday services, which begins with a luncheon that we hold once a month to familiarize new members with what we have available to help them grow.
