I have a real difficult time reading the book of Numbers because to me it seems so out of date. I am not saying it isn't important but that there's not much I can find that can help me in my faith journey. However, having said that verse 54 is significant to me because it is a testimony of following the LORD's Commandments no matter how mundane they seem to be. One of the things that jump out at me is the fact that GOD already knew the life of every individual that was counted so the census wasn't for GOD but for Moses and the people themselves. So much information is gained by census taking and that would especially been true for Moses because they would be facing many new things.

It would be interesting but not possible to trace your family line back to Biblical times. I know the Chinese have kept good records but I believe most of us can't trace back beyond 7 generations.
