Luke 16:13
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Many have taken the passage to mean that it is wrong to have money but that is not true. What it is really saying is, who are you serving, God or money? Money is necessary in this world as a means of trade, but that money can be used to further the kingdom of God, whether by providing for those who need help, or, for the furtherance of the gospel. If we continually seek after great amounts of money and hoard it for ourselves, or, for purchasing luxury things that we don't really need rather than serving the kingdom of God, then I believe we are serving money rather than God. Lord, help me to always serve You, rather than money. Amen

This verse rings so true to me. I often try to explain to my teenage daughter that she has to prioritize the activities in her life. I tell her that it is not readable to get good grades, play sports, have a job and be actively involved in church. She must decide which is most important. Of course school & church come before sports and work. If we try to do to many things at once we will not succeed at any. As the verse states we can only serve one master; the question ismwhich master are you going to serve.

Everyone has something that they commit to. It can be becoming rich, famous, popular, or important, to name just a few of the earthly desires. Or you can commit to God and want to know Him through His word, and love others as He love you.

THIS IS SO TRUE. SO MANY PEOPLE THINK MONEY IS THE RULER.THOU SHALL PUT NOTHING AND NOBODY BEFORE GOD, HE'S THE RULER ALL BY HIMSELF.YOU CAN NOT SERVE MONEY AND GOD. ONE OR NONE. TO ME MONEY IS EVIL IN A SENSE, BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE DWELL ON IT ,YOU CAN'T BUY YOUR WAY INTO HEAVEN. IF THE LORD NEED SOMEBODY, HERE AM I, USE ME, MAKE ME, MOLD ME, SEND ME LORD.

We can only serve one God not two. You cannot serve materialistic things and serve God too, that is serving two gods. Know who you are serving at all times I serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Be careful friends. Don't be captivated by the false gospel (prosperity gospel). Our Heavenly Father does want to bless his children BUT guard your heart and motives. Are you truly a follower of Jesus, which can often result in suffering and hardship and persecution yet experiencing true blessing (see beatitudes) or are you following the god of this world and the expected riches (money, fame, etc) offered. "You can not serve both God and money", Jesus said. Many "christians" in North America are falling into this trap.
