It is an example of God protecting us from things that are harmful that we do not understand. The Israelites did not know anything about disease from dead animals. I must obey His Commands through the Holy Spirit in us to be protected and showing our love and respect for God!
His greatest Command is to love him with all my heart and all of my mind and all of my strength and my neighbor as myself. Amen.

God expected respect of the blood of the sacrifices even then. He allowed it to stand as atonement for their sins. It is amazing how even some Christians take for granted the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. He went to the cross for us and when we choose to live in depression and disparity we are basically disregarding what he did for us. He barred it all not so we would live in misery but so that we would be forgiven and live happy abundant lives. Being a Christian does not mean going without and always struggling it means living life out to its fullest potential no matter what that may be for you but finding joy right where you are!

This seems to be a tribute and foreshadowing to the voluntary death of Jesus Christ. Spilling His blood atoned for all of our sins foreve so we wouldn't have to die separated from God. His blood was and still is the ultimate atonement for our lives. Praise be to God!
