Leviticus 1:4
You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you.

What an amazing testimony of the grace of God, innocent animals died so sinful man could live. The whole system was a picture of what Jesus would one day accomplish for us all on the Cross. Our sins were transferred to Him and His righteousness is then transferred over to us. Great is the Lord and worthy of praise!

The institution of animal sacrifice for sin, the person who performs this sacrifice would place their hands on the animals head which would die in their place. then their sins would be transferred to their Substitute. And as we continue to study Leviticus we know that Sacrifice will lead to a more perfect Sacrifice, The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ who takes upon Himself the Sins of the World.

Very well expressed, Peter. It is hard to imagine the suffering Christ went through, the God and Creator of heaven and earth, and all that is within, to pay the price that we aught to have had to pay. What an awesome, loving God we serve. Be blessed and inspired as we worship the Lord on His day and through the week. :-)

I am thankful we do not have to do this (type of offerings) anymore but we do have to remember to do Romans 12:1 continuously in order to die to self and the things of this world.

Atonement.. I have heard it said that this means you will again be at one with God. But if you look deeper, you can see that you must in a sense be one with the offering. Yow need to see that the death and burning of the cow or goat or turtle dove, etc is not because God's desire to see blodd but it is because YOU messed up and this animal is paying the price. The you mess up again and you need another sacrifice. If we lived under that system now, Would you be conscious of the gallons, the barrels of blodd that would be shed because of your little sins? We need to really thank the gracious and merciful God that made another provision, teh Lord Jesus Christ.

These offerings are looking ahead to the sacrifice that Jesus would make as atonement for our sins. In order to show their faith, the Israelites were to offer the best, most perfect of their flocks. This represented the sacrifice of the PERFECT SINLESS LORD JESUS CHRIST who later lived on this earth and died, taking our sins upon Himself. He offers this atonement freely to all who will believe and accept His gift of atonement. He arose from the dead assuring us of eternal life with Him after our earthly journey is over .

Thank you, Jesus. You became the sacrificial lamb atoning for our sins once for all. I praise and worship you.
