Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
Joseph T. from Yorba Linda, CA said:
It seems like today more than before, we are looked down upon from the world because we proclaim this really good news. I am not promised money or reward for doing so. I just want to, because I know the hope in God is just that....hope. Not as the world views hope, but as the child of God views it. I was lost but now I am found. I proclaim it to all because I want to. Not because I have to.

This says so much about God's love for the unloved and/or unlovable. Who do we seek to minister to? Hint, not just the lovely and not just the unlovable. God wants for none to perish.

Jesus quoted Isaiah 61:1-2 in Luke 4:18-19 as He read from the Book of Isaiah one Sabbath day. He stopped with, "to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor", and said, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." He did not read the rest of verse two which says, "and the day of vengeance of our God", because that passage won't be fulfilled until Jesus returns. Jesus is coming again and He will make all things right!

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord, the Transforming of the Holy Spirit that changes me (us). The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is Transforming us to be like Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lords glory, are being Transformed into His Image with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord 's favorand the day of vengeance of our God,to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beautyinstead of ashes, the oil of joyinstead of mourning, and a garment of praiseinstead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
This is the scripture Jesus choose to announce to the world that this day had come, that He was Indeed the Messiah that they'd long awaited for.
In the Old Testament, people were often literally anointed with oil. For example, priests were anointed for their special service to the LORD (Exodus 28:41). Literal oil would be applied, but as a sign of the Holy Spirit upon their lives and service. The oil on the head was only the outward representation of the real, spiritual work going on inside them.
We Christians, under the New Covenant, also have an anointing: But our anointing is from the Holy One(1 John 2:20). When we receive Jesus in all. His fulness, we don't need a priest to pour oil on top of our head and have it drip and run all over us, The New Testament anointing has the idea of being filled with, and blessed by, the Holy Spirit. This is something that's available to all Christians, we can have as much or little of the Holy Spirit as we want.
Sin has done great damage, and there needs to be a great work of redemption.
Jesus, our Messiah is announcing that He's here to heal all the damage that sin brings.
Sin brings impoverishment, oppressesion, captivity, and brokenness to all areas of our lives. He's preaching good tidings to the poor, healing to the brokenhearted, proclaiming liberty to the captives, and the opening the prison to those who are bound. He's proclaiming that this, right here and now, is the acceptable year of the LORD.
Notice that Jesus stopped reading here in the middle of the prophecy, because to proclaim … the day of vengeance of our God is referring to His Second Coming, not to His first coming. The comma in year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance has stood for almost 2,000 years. God is showing us something of the nature of Biblical prophecy: it tends to "shift gears" and time frames quickly, and without warning. It's the glory of us kings kids to diligently search it out with a pure heart and He'll reveal it to us.
Jesus is offering a tremendous trade out here: beauty for ashes, oil of joy for mourning, a garment of praise for their spirit of heaviness. This is His offering to us, so Why do we sit in the ashes and mourn, why do we indulge the spirit of heaviness when Jesus gave us something so much better? It all goes back to radio devil and radio God. Here we have a perfectly tuned station to radio God. Radio devil will come along and try to interfere with this perfect signal. It's our choice do we want what Jesus is describing here, or do we want to continue doing what we're doing and getting what we're getting. The choice is ours. Life or death. As for me, I choose life. Papa God, whenever I decide to even remotely listen to radio devil yank my leash and bring me back to the basics of this simple choice,

My best friend, who started out as my Bible study leader years ago, and still continues to help guide me; shared with me, back in October, that he envisions me involved in 'deliverence ministry'. At first I thought, 'ME?!? Yeah right!'. But now I can see it myself and I am very excited about it! :-)
