1 Peter 3:9
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

1 Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. Whenever someone hurts me, I have a choice to make it an act of my will to forgive them and not try to get back at them. I've found the best way to do this is to ask Papa God to help me, ask Him to forgive them and pray that He'll bless them. Now, just because I forgive them, doesn't mean I have to continue to allow them into my life. I've found that "no contact" is equivalent to the phrase God uses and that's "have no fellowship with this kind of person". Thank You Papa God for giving me the strength to forgive, knowing that You're able to make them pay or repent. For You said in , "Deuteronomy 32:35: "Vengeance is mine, and I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them." So give me the grace to trust that You're going to take care of all of this iJna

When you think about it, if we are called to be like Christ then following this scripture should be easy for us. We insulted Christ, we spit on Him, we degraded Him and not once did He ever come back with an insult or evil. No, he repaid our insults with love, with compassion and with death to save us. Oh Lord, help me to be more like you, because I am called to be Christ-like but I certainly struggle with this. Help me to stop and think before speaking, to ask you for guidance and help.

This passage reminds me that I need to have the Love of Jesus inside of me. It helps me to love the unlovable. It reminds me that I too am unlovable and Jesus died for me! I can at the very least forgive my enemies of their sins against me and pray for blessings in their lives. I do not have to DIE to accomplish this. I pray for Gods help in this area on a regular basis. Thank you Jesus for speaking to me this morning about this I NEED NEEDED to hear you

This not only revokes my prideful tendencies to respond to a negative with a negative, but goes way beyond that in telling me that I was intended to respond to trials with blessings; that these are actually opportunities to receive blessings of my own. (God is truly amazing, I just couldn't make this stuff up!) How completely contradictory to the popular world view.

Wow, Powerful Indeed. I must obey this more as I still struggle with issues that come up from after my divorce from my 1st marriage and getting mad, using bad words, not being Christlike.

This is difficult to do; it takes fortitude on my part to be kind to someone who has been unkind to me. I think the key is patience and calmness, so that I don't strike out with harsh words.

So true Linda. It is difficult not to lash back but we see later on that it will cause them to basically feel guilt for having persecuted us, when all we did was act in righteousness. Our nature, at least mine, is to lash back with harsh words and as you say it is hard to not do that. Blessings.

How tempting it is to get revenge on someone who has done you wrong or yell back in anger when someone is yelling at you. But God is telling us to repay evil with a blessing because that is what He expects of us. It may be very hard in the moment to bless someone who is irritating you but you have self control in you ,you have to fight the temptations of the devil and know that you are doing the right thing and God will bless you .Even if it takes all of your strength and self control to do it ,it's worth it even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.

kindness breaks thru the defence of anger and retaliation that the offender is trying to demonstrate. A blessing in the face of an insult expresses love and sensitivity to the offenders internal pain and thought process forcing them to look inward allowing Holy Spirit to convict and giving them a choice to repent or retaliate.
