Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

This not only revokes my prideful tendencies to respond to a negative with a negative, but goes way beyond that in telling me that I was intended to respond to trials with blessings; that these are actually opportunities to receive blessings of my own. (God is truly amazing, I just couldn't make this stuff up!) How completely contradictory to the popular world view.
