My opinion is that the demons, evil spirits, did not die. They just went into waiting until they could inhabit someone else. I believe that demons are the original fallen angels as well as the spirits of un-Godly people. My understanding is that they won't die until God throws them into the lake of fire as described in Revelation 20:14 and 21:8.

God had not forsaken Jesus on the cross. At that time, Jesus was taking on all the sin of the world past, present and future. God cannot look upon sin, so he had to turn away from Jesus.
