Have you seen the movie "Loving Leah". It deals with the modern Jew's issue of a wife who loses her husband without bearing a child to him. I was surprised that modern Jewry still addresses this problem. The brother either renounces his dead brother or marries his dead brother's wife now. But that is among the ultraorthodox only, I think. Most Jews bury the dead and let the widow marry who she wishes. What was done in the old testament isn't necessarily practiced today.
