Genesis 37:22
"Don't shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don't lay a hand on him." Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.

I hadn't realized that Reuben planned to rescue him and that he was against what his brothers wicked ways. I imagine the brothers knew he would do this and that's why they sold him. I think to myself how powerful is pride and jealousy and this is a lesson to parents to not have favorites. Nothing ever good comes of it. This was the fathers fault as well. Many families where there are stepchildren have this problem. I even witnessed this with some friends of my brother. We were at a birthday party and she had a new baby and a stepchild. She treated the stepchild horribly whether intentional or not it was awful to see happen and I hope she turned out ok. Lord please show this young woman regardless of how her stepmother treated her she is more precious than gold in your eyes. Intervene in her life Lord and woo her to you. In Jesus name I pray amen.

This story of Joseph, my favorite of all Old Testament accounts. Obviously the God inspired Reuben to show compassion for his brother, encouraging his brothers to at least spare his life. God already had a plan for Joseph, and it was no doubt Him who caused Reuben to persuade his brothers to spare his life, for the purpose He had planned. The story of Joseph is a tremendous example for us today to exhibit perseverance and faith.
