Acts 17:23
For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

Paul used the circumstances of the day (something to which everyone could easily relate) in order to share God's message. He used the culture's insatiable curiosity as an opening -- didn't condemn the idolatry, just used it to show who God really is.

Acts 16:25
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
Gina W. from Phoenix, AZ said:
Paul & Silas had peace because of their closeness to God: they KNEW that God sent them there and instead of moping...they concentrated on worship to the Highest, Almighty God! Fellow prisoners heard their testimonies while God gave them the supreme peace to continue their testimonies.....only then could God "open the doors" to the jailer who was charged with their continued imprisonment.
Had they not been close to the heart of God, they might have assumed that God shook the prison doors open to just to give them their freedom (it would all be "about them" -- not necessarily the long-term story of the grace of God). Instead they were "in-tune" with the all-powerful, omniscient will of the Almighty God: the salvation (physical & spiritual) ofthe jailer, his family, & the entire community (it was all "about God's grace & glory"!).
May I stay close enough to my Higher Power to keep HIS glory in my vision & actions of my everyday life -- even when it seems that "a door is opened for me". May I always keep God & other people's welfare in FRONT OF my own!!

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

This is a reminder of how simple -- yet somehow hard to remember just how to do, in certain situations -- God's commands are! LOVE!! If I truly love others as God loves me, everything else falls into place.

Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

There are so many beneficial things in creation that we don't even see. God actually needs to remind us of the very reason for which we were created. Imagine what an insult it is that the creator of the whole universe has to remind us of the very reasons for our existence!! But he loves us so much, in spite of ourselves.

Mark 1:35
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

This is how important that our time with God the father is: Christ went out to spend time alone with his father! And this was after an incredible, victorious & miraculous bit of time. I shouldn't wait to spend time with God when I'm desperate & think I need to beg from him. I need to meet one-on-one with him constantly!!

Christ's statement of being with us always is just incredible. I shows his incredible, unending love for us. Right after his announcement of having ALL authority -- both Heaven & earth -- he follows that bold statement with his love for every single one of us! How amazing is that!!

This was the beginning of the era of grace. No more "mediators" needed. Instead we can approach God our father boldly!

This entire chapter shows our weaknesses as humans. We promise, scheme, plan, try to manipulate....but, we need to instead rely completely on God, who is our strength. Everything else is reliance on self, and that will always disappoint!

God's love is evident through our actions. If we cannot have compassion on people we despise or overlook, how can we ever recognize God's true nature?
