Ezra 5:16
"So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem. From that day to the present it has been under construction but is not yet finished."
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
From that day to this, We are still under construction! He will perfect that which concerns us.

Ezra 4:2
they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the families and said, "Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here."
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
In the previous verse, Verse 1 these people were clearly labeled as enemies of Judah. I think there must have been some wisdom in recognizing them as enemies in spite of their declarations that they wanted to help. And even more wisdom in rejecting their help, even though I am sure their help and their finances were needed. I would desire this discernment to know my enemies and reject their help even when it looks attractive.

John 19:26
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, "Woman, here is your son,"
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
Earlier in His testimony Jesus does not leave His teaching to obey His mother's request. Rather he testifies that those that believe in Him are His mother, His brother and His sister. Lest we should be left with the impression that Jesus did not honor His mother, as scripture commands, here He cares for her to the end. He commands His disciple, whom He loves, to take her into his home as mother. Jesus honored His mother. Why He chose this disciple rather than one of her other sons, I don't know. I am sure He chose the best for her, because He is Jesus.

John 18:36
Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place."
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
This is ticklish. If His kingdom is not of this world, then OUR kingdom is not of this world. Maybe that is why we are not delivered from all the trials we would LIKE to be delivered from. I don't really have this all thought out yet, it is just an idea right now based on what Jesus said about His own problem...

John 11:16
Then Thomas (also known as Didymus ) said to the rest of the disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
I love the fact that even though Thomas was convinced this trip would end in death, he was ready to go with Jesus. The trip did not end in death, but in victory. So the application for us is this: Even though we cannot see the end of a project, even though we don't think we can accomplish a thing, if we go with Jesus we will end in victory. If we obey Him, He will accomplish His will in and through us. We don't have to be able to see the outcome. Like Thomas we need to be willing to follow even if it leads us to death. After death comes the resurrection!

Matthew 3:4
John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
How many of us that believe we are committed to serving the Lord would be willing to live out our lives dressed in rough clothing with minimal food? We live in houses full of electronic toys, collectibles and hobbies. We have an abundance of food and water. We desire to serve the Lord and keep all our stuff. John served the Lord INSTEAD of having stuff!

Leviticus 24:16
anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.
Holly S. from Wellston, MI said:
While I don't believe the Lord would have us to kill one another today, this verse clearly indicates what a serious offense it is to blaspheme the Name of the Lord. In our culture the Lord's name is taken pretty lightly. We need this reminder of the Lord's commandments concerning His name. Even "believers" use the Name of Jesus the Christ as a common expletive.
