Leviticus 24:16
anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.

Again a difficult chapter to choose any specific verse: key words for this verse, anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord. The blasphemer will one day kneel before the Lord, and acknowledge His Lordship, His Holiness, His Majesty. And as Christians for those who have trusted in Him the name of God will be the object of Our Praise, which one day be our eternal occupation in Heaven. Revelation 19:5-7 Then a voice came from the throne, saying; "Praise our God all you servants, you who fear Him, both great and small! Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of a rushing, waters and like a loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him Glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and the Bride has made herself ready.

Amen Peter. Just returned from a two and a half hour prayer meeting. The praise and honor lifted to the Lord was so amazing and there were words of teaching, all of which brought glory to our Lord. He is such an awesome God and so worthy of our honor and praise. There was such unity in the believers at that meeting, and the Lord gave instruction of growth through several of the attendants. Have a glorious week as we grow, and draw closer to our King, Peter. :-)

There's a Name that is above all names. And at the sound of that Name, every knees shall bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. This Name is powerful and to be revered and will rescue you when you cry out, this name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

If we practice this law today I think there would be a great reduction in our populations. They Lord's name it taken in vain every day and we don't seem to think anything of it. It's a shame we have become so complacent in our society today, but we know god's judgement is open us and we know we will be judge for it. Seek his word and pray.

I agree! There are so many things that we as a society put up with today that we full well know are not right yet we sweep it under the rug so to speak instead of standing out and speaking up for what is right!

We must live and speak with the realization that Jehovah God is the Name above all Names, our Creator, He is holy and righteous, the writer and author of time, Alpha and Omega. Holy, Holy Holy.

Wow!! Can you imagine today?? Anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be PUT TO DEATH!! I think half my of office would be dead by now. Seriously though, we see a tremendous fear and reverence when God acted in this way. We see the case of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 and how they too were put to death by the angel of the Lord for lying to the Holy Ghost. The church then feared God and the church, in turn, multiplied.

When reading this particular passage of scripture, I was quickly reminded of Job's wife and the "advice" she gave to her husband: Job 2:9 "Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die." Job's response was sound, it was a rebuke: Job 2:10 "But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips." We are shown many instances in the Word of God, what blasphemy is and why we should be careful not to commit such a sin. The edicts that were placed into effect during the Old Testament were those that showed the weight of a matter and the consequences to the matter which were just and quick. I have heard many people over the course of the last 15 years make a very serious statement; "I do not like the God of the Old Testament because He seemed to be cruel and uncaring." That statement is an egregious statement, especially when made by child of God. The Old Testament and New Testament God are one in the same and His ways are high above what we can fathom and He is a Just God. I apologize for jumping in here, however; I am very greatful to see that this type of Bible study is being offered by the Pocket Testament League. I am looking forward to participating as much as possible.

While I don't believe the Lord would have us to kill one another today, this verse clearly indicates what a serious offense it is to blaspheme the Name of the Lord. In our culture the Lord's name is taken pretty lightly. We need this reminder of the Lord's commandments concerning His name. Even "believers" use the Name of Jesus the Christ as a common expletive.

this verse highlights that the Lord's name is holy and we are to respect it. It also reminds me of why we need Jesus; His blood covers our mistakes, unworthiness, and penchant to sin. How grateful I am that I am His and not condemed like the man in the verse.
