Ezra 4:2
they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the families and said, "Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here."

This was only half true. They did set up altars to worship God but these Samaritans also continued to worship idols. (2 Kings 17:24-41) But the good news is their hearts centuries later will be changed by Jesus. (John 4:3-42)

In the OT, most people think that only the Israelites worship God, but this shows that there are people that were not Israelites that were worshipping the Lord. Just wish that the Israelites weren't too harsh on them.

In the previous verse, Verse 1 these people were clearly labeled as enemies of Judah. I think there must have been some wisdom in recognizing them as enemies in spite of their declarations that they wanted to help. And even more wisdom in rejecting their help, even though I am sure their help and their finances were needed. I would desire this discernment to know my enemies and reject their help even when it looks attractive.
