Nehemiah had obviously discerned the deceptive tactics of the other leaders and he counted upon the Lord, and rejected their deceptive attempts to lure him away, that they could kill him. God's hand of protection was upon Nehemiah, so that he was able to complete the wall that would protect himself and his people. Prov 9:10 The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

The wall was completed by the will of God and the persistence of those building the wall. They counted on the Lord for the ability and provision to complete it and ignored the attempts of their enemies to persuade them otherwise, and it was done.

The enemy always attempts to intimidate and confuse, to take our attention of of the true true and living God, so that we will not serve and worship Him as He desires us to do. We see through this portion of Scripture where the enemy attempted again and again to distract their attention away from God, the initiator of this work of rebuilding. God, right now is beginning to rebuild His church and I believe, if we stand true to Him, 2014 is going to be a year of great strides ahead in uniting the true church and making it strong around the world. Help us, Lord, to keep our focus on You and what You are doing, rather than the distractions of those who would destroy the work of God. Amen
