The woman refers to herself as a dog when compared to Jesus and his followers. Her metaphor indicates that she eagerly listens to the little bit of good news she can get from them. She evidently doesn't follow the ways and teachings of the other Canaanite people. We should learn from this that God will reward us for not following the ways of our non-believing peers in our society. Instead, we need to follow the way of love and truth taught by Jesus Christ.
