Leviticus 11:47
You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.' "

Our loving and merciful God loves us so much that He does not want our bodies to be unclean by eating unclean things. We are to be pure in His eyes. Our Lord Jesus has brought in a new law in His New Testament which we need to pay close attention to. We are to love Him with all our heart, souls and mind and to love our neighbour as ourselves. Jesus also tells us to deny self and follow Him. However, be careful what you eat, say or do.

The limitations the Lord put upon the creatures which could be eaten as food was surely high. We are surely blessed at this time, since the sacrifice of Christ on the cross of Calvary, and the New Covenant, that we do not have such limitations, though there are several of those creatures that I would not car to eat anyhow. Thank You, Lord, that our limitations are less under Your New Covenant.

There are many of these that I surely would not eat anyway but I am wondering if all of these apply to the New Covenant or not. I have searched but have not been able to determine to my satisfaction whether such things as a pig is forbidden now?? This has puzzled me for some time.

This is the same I believe to be as Christians. We must choose wisely our friends who to and who not to hang around. Also the churches of today have more of the worldly things than the things of God inside the Church. We must choose wisely no matter what the cost. Paul tells us that when we become a Christian old things pass away behold all things become new. That means from what you eat to who you hang with.

We discover in the Book of Acts chapter ten that this list of clean and unclean food was about a whole lot more than food. God gave Peter a vision of all these clean and unclean creatures and told him to, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat. But Peter said, "Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean." And a voice spoke to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed you must not call common." (Acts 10:13-15) What follows is the salvation of the first Gentiles. Sin makes us all 'unclean'. We all need the blood of Jesus Christ to wash us whiter than snow!

God determined all the animals that could be eaten for food. Often eating an unclean animal made a person sick or killed them. Before health laws had been established God established some to protect his people.

It seems to me that these instructions from God are to be obeyed even today but how many believers eat some of the creatures mentioned here as unclean. I would venture to say, most. Perhaps this is a wake up call to the church. How many church, men's breakfasts do we see bacon (pork, pig) served?? Lots, because it's easy and fast. Perhaps this is one reason we are not seeing the presence of God in most of our Christian circles.

This chapter mentions many animals that are unclean and any contact with them would make you unclean........this verse says that they must distinguish between the unclean and the clean. To me this verse is saying that I need to also distinguish between right and wrong and not let myself become unclean.

God never intended for us to kill any living creature for food. After sin, death became a part of the process. Our heavenly Father gave the Israelites specific instructions as to what could be eaten and what couldn't be eaten. Part of this was to test their obedience, but another part was to keep them healthy. We, too, are being tested for our obedience. Do we choose to follow God's word and be clean or do we choose to sin (without asking Him for forgiveness) and be unclean?
