Judges 17:2
said to his mother, "The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse—I have that silver with me; I took it."

Then his mother said, "The Lord bless you, my son!"

The mother was so attached to her money and her son wanted it now not when it was left to him upon her death. He feared her when she cursed so pound into his ears and she was so happy when he repented. But not for the right reasons. When we sin we need to repent and seek forgiveness, not for any other reason than to receive God's forgiveness. The son repented for selfish reasons, we are to repent to seek God and his grace.

Even after her son took her money from her, an amount that seems a lot still, the mother forgave and blessed him in the name of the Lord. There are many things that people do to us that may seem unforgivable; but with the grace of God, we are able to forgive those transgressions with peace. With this forgiveness, maybe those ones who are forgiven will come to realize the wonderful joys found in a life filled with God.

There are two points I find interesting about this chapter 1. his mother basically blesses him for stealing. As parents we must teach right from wrong. These days it's as if our children can do no wrong. Things are excused by their parents and even sometimes taken to the extreme of defending them even though they are wrong. If we only give blessing and praise how will they learn. 2. In the last verse 13 we see that perhaps because of his misguided sense of right and wrong Micah felt that if he aligned himself with this Levite that God would be good to him even though what he was doing was wrong. Showing he knew it was wrong but was finding a way to excuse it away. God is not fooled he knows our hearts. If our hearts are in line then our lives will truly be also.

I guess Micah was superstitious and afraid of being cursed, so he fessed up. Mom must've blessed him to renounce the curse. At least he was an honest thief. Mom then said she had dedicated all the $$ to the Lord. But wait a minute, she then only took 200 shekels of it to build an idol. So, not only did she not discipline her son for stealing, she stole from God too. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Vs 6 says: In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit. Micah didn't do what he thought was wrong, he thought he was doing right, cuz he didn't know the word of God. "my people perish for lack of knowledge". It's wonderful for us to come here and read the word and share about it, we not perish, we will prosper and do great things bcuz we are bathing in the wonderful water of God's word. Hallelujah! God bless each of u here in this forum.

But what about all the things we do that we know are wrong. Like celebrating Easter and things we know have a pagan background. I know God looks at the heart and we don't think of the pagan things but are we 100% sure it isn't wrong? and what about pictures of Jesus that we have with red hair or even actors on TV making us have a false image of God? Sometimes I wonder if we are more off than we think we are.

I heard a Pastor say that we don't like unflattering pics of ourselves and wee would be upset if they put our name under some one elses pic. God doesn't want that either.
