Genesis 42:21
They said to one another, "Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that's why this distress has come on us."

Joseph's brothers had surely realized their error in treating him so drastically those years before, and they felt that God was punishing them, since they did not recognize Joseph, their own brother. Their stress at that point must have been incredible, but they were without any choice, as Joseph had the food that they, their father and their families needed back home.

Lloyd, just thinking about this verse, 20 years is a long time to carry such a burden of a guilty consciences. And as believers in Jesus Christ, thanks be to the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sin, for He dwells in us. Blessings Lloyd on this up coming Lords Day.

Here we see a group of men, Joseph's brothers having a guilty consciences for selling their brother, Twenty years is a heavy burden to carry for the sin they committed against their brother. Here we see in Genesis that we can be thankful for God's word that gives us strength to over come the struggles of everyday life, and to forgive those who wronged have us.

Once again we chose the same verse, Peter. And pretty much the same thought, of their brother's "guilty consciences." Have a blessed Lord's day, Peter, as we gather and worship Him, our Lord and Savior, with like believers. :-)

I wonder if they felt guilty about their sun before this. You know, sorry I got caught, but not sorry I did it. I know Reuben did, cuz he felt bad from the get-go.

Joseph's brothers are obviously feeling pretty guilty. They have been living the past 10 or so years having lied to their father and believing they were responsible for their brother's death - a heavy weight to carry. Life hasn't been very joyful I am sure. Jacob also has been grief stricken all these years. Not a good environment to be raised in. It is not good to cover up wrong doing (sin) in our lives. Thank you Jesus that we can come to you and confess it and be cleansed.

Joseph's brothers felt guilty about the hurt and death they believed they had inflicted on their brother. Their conscience would not let them forget their sin against their brother. They believed that they were being punished for the sin they had committed against their brother. Our conscience tells us when we are being sinful - sometimes our conscience lets us know at the time we are committing sin and sometimes we may not feel our conscience tugging at us until we have committed the sin - at which time we should just apologize and ask for forgiveness.

I agree. Joseph's brother must have felt so guilty when all those emotions they tried to suppress came rushing over them. They couldn't hide no more, it was time to deal with them and admit the truth and ask for forgiveness.
