This passage shows me that those who believed were willing to give to the work of the Lord, for He promised to bless those who did. "Mal 3:10  Bring all the tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. And test Me now with this, says Jehovah of Hosts, to see if I will not open the windows of Heaven for you, and pour out a blessing for you, until there is not enough room." It is the same today, just as they did in Old Testament days before Christ. Those who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ give/gave as they are/were able, so that the work of the Lord may be carried on. 2Cor 8:3-5  For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability; they gave willingly; (4)  with much beseeching, begging us that they might receive of us the grace and the fellowship of the ministry to the saints. (5)  And not as we hoped, but first they gave themselves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God, 

All who were willing ... this phrase is used 4 times in this section. I am assuming many were not willing. I am reminded that we too are to give our tithes and offerings to the Lord willingly with a cheerful spirit and not give begrudgingly.

Those who love the Lord give all they can and serve as often as they can... We all have a gift that God has given us and we must seek it out and use it as He wills...
