Exodus 33:17
And the Lord said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
In verse 3 the Lord had said He would not go into the promised land with them. However, as Moses asked the Lord not to send them unless He (the Lord) went with them because only with His presence about Moses, no one would be able to distinguish them from anyone else, because the presence of the Lord and His glory set them apart. As Moses requested the Lord's presence to go with them, the Lord now agreed upon Moses request, because Moses had set himself apart and was always obedient to the Lord.

God knew Moses and Moses followed God's commandments. This pleased God. Just as we please God when we follow hisommandments. God knows us by our name and loves us. He is always there with us leading us every step.

Upon the petition of Moses, God said He would go with them, even after He said He would not go with them, because He was pleased with Moses. Lord, help me/us to be pleasing to You, so that I/we may have Your presence at all times. Without You, Lord, we can do nothing, so help us Lord to be obedient to You, that our nations may be turned back to You, through Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen

Hilarie V. from Las Vegas, NV said:
God was pleased with Moses and knew his desire was for the Lord to stay with them as they journeyed. It is amazing how this shows that God changed His recourse after being persuaded by Moses, his faithful servant. God knew Moses by name and therefore did not abandon him. When we are obedient and do our best to please the Lord, He is pleased with us. We are written in his book of life and he knows us all by name. When God sees that He can trust us, He will bless us and give us our desires.

This shows the God will do what we ask for in our prayers as long as we believe and have faith. He knows everyone and each of us personally by name.

This verse means to me is that if you are faithful, obedient and our doing good works he knows you and he will bless you when the time comes to do so. So whatever you do for others that was from the heart and not for greed to gain something he will remember you and your name will be in heaven for all you have done on earth.
