This verse tells me that our Lord is in control and we need to follow Him and we need to obey Him as we walk in life. Our Lord God is in control of all life. Trust and obey Him !!!

This whole story is messy. Ahab was sad because Naboth wouldn't accept the generous offer from him. Jezebel had Naboth killed because of it and God was ready to kill Ahab because of his wife's actions. Ahab didn't even seem to know what had happened! All he knew was that God was angry with him and that he humbled himself before God, which was enough for God to spare his life. Life is full of messy situations that are sometimes beyond people's control. Let's be merciful. <3

Here we see in this verse the justice a mercy God is showing to Ahab, we know that he did not deserve it because of the actions of Jezebel. But Ahad humbled himself in the eyes of the Lord that He granted Him mercy. We as Christians know the end of this story, Gods mercy is only temporary, His judgment is now delayed. We know Gods mercy is great and its never to late to repent. God is just and wants to show Mercy.

As Ahab, through Jezebel, brought about the death of Naboth, those of his family after him would pay the price for the evil Jezebel had caused. Jezebel was an evil woman and when Ahab connected with her, there was a price to pay. When we are unequally yoked there is conflict, and the Lord does not desire the two to be united. 2Cor 6:14  Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness?

Ahab was more wicked than any king in Israel but when he repented God in his grace reduced his punishment. The same Lord who was merciful to Ahab is merciful to us. No matter what we have done it is never too late to humble ourselves before the Lord and ask for forgiveness.

We serve a gracious God, Terry, when we repent of our sins. Confession and repentance are big factors. God bless, brother Terry.

Anyone who read this story would agree that Ahab deserves death and that the judgment that God proclaimed to him through Elijah should come true. However, the verse above showed a different outcome. God is so just and so loving. He readily forgives us when we seek him in humility. But because of Ahab's wickedness, his son will pay the prize for his sins. Because of our sins, Jesus had to pay the prize using his life on the cross. Because of our sins, God's son had to pay the prize. Let us repent and seek his kingdom and his righteousness so that the blood of Jesus will not be in vain in our lives. Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

Humble your self in the sight of the Lord. Its a surprise that God changed His mind and allowed Ahab to live longer but God still punished his offspring for Ahab's sin. In OT, there is the principle that the sins of the father have consequences to the 3rd and 4th generation. I think the principle is still true today unfortunately or has God changed the way he operates? However, for each generation, this doesn't have to happen if we respond to His call and choose to Follow Jesus. We can choose to live a holy life (in Him) and break the effect of sins of our past generations.

Ahab went against the Lord and then when was confronted with his sin he humbled and repented and the Lord did no punish him. However, his son's family would suffer the consequences. The Bible tells us that the sins of the father will be passed down and will effect as afr as the third and fourth generations. (Exod. 20:15, Num. 14:18, Deut. 5:9)

This is interesting, Ahab humbled himself before God and he didn't destroy Ahab in his day but he didn't not go unpunished, though he wouldn't be around to see what his act of evil caused his decedents. Greed is a terrible thing and we must learn not to give into it.
