1 Chronicles 27:24
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. God's wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David.

Another difficult chapter to gain much from but it shows another time that Israel obviously went against the will of the Lord, and He loosed His wrath upon them. A great warning for the leaders of different nations today, to pay attention to the will of God, lest they ignite His judgment.
Peter B.
Peter B. from Buchanan, MI said:
You did well on this verse Lloyd, it was difficult. Man should always listen to the commands of the Lord to avoid His judgement. And as we know from scripture man is so rebellious, one day He will unleash His judgement because of sin and disobedience. Blessings brother, as another week is going by.

God had told them not count the men but they started any way. Soon God's wrath came on Israel.

David fell for the trap of pride that always goes before destruction. The wrath that came upon the people of God was a costly one causing seventy thousand to perish. When David repented and worshipped God the hand of the destoying angel was stayed, sparing Jerusalem. We must always be careful to keep our eyes on the one that brings blessing rather than the blessed ones.

David wanted the able body men of the Israelite army to be numbered. Joab son of Zeruiah began counting the men but he did not finish. God's wrath came on Israel on account of the numbering. Why was God angry with the Israelites and David? - Because with the numbering the men, David might have felt confident that they could come up against any army who opposed him. David should have put his confidence in the Lord. If the Lord was on their side it would not matter if they had only 300 men because with the Lord anything is possible.

Amen, Sue. He did it with Gideon. If God is for us who can be against us.

Could someone explain this verse to me? I'm not sure I really understand.

I'm with you, Bill. I find some of these things very vague, like why was the Lord angered for the counting, if that was the cause of His anger. God bless.

To Bill and Lloyd read 1 Chronicles 21: 1-8 It is my thinking that taking a numbering of the men who were fit for battle. David might put his confidence in the number of men he had rather then on the Lord. If you are confidence is in the Lord, it would not matter if there were only 300 men. Because if God is for you, who can be against you?

Good point, well taken, Sue. Thank you. God bless.
