1 Chronicles 27:24
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. God's wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Another difficult chapter to gain much from but it shows another time that Israel obviously went against the will of the Lord, and He loosed His wrath upon them. A great warning for the leaders of different nations today, to pay attention to the will of God, lest they ignite His judgment.

Mario D. from Esperance, NY said:
David fell for the trap of pride that always goes before destruction. The wrath that came upon the people of God was a costly one causing seventy thousand to perish. When David repented and worshipped God the hand of the destoying angel was stayed, sparing Jerusalem. We must always be careful to keep our eyes on the one that brings blessing rather than the blessed ones.

David wanted the able body men of the Israelite army to be numbered. Joab son of Zeruiah began counting the men but he did not finish. God's wrath came on Israel on account of the numbering.
Why was God angry with the Israelites and David? - Because with the numbering the men, David might have felt confident that they could come up against any army who opposed him. David should have put his confidence in the Lord. If the Lord was on their side it would not matter if they had only 300 men because with the Lord anything is possible.

Could someone explain this verse to me? I'm not sure I really understand.
