Proverbs 22:18
for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart
and have all of them ready on your lips.
and have all of them ready on your lips.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
This verse is saying to me that it is pleasing to Him when you read and actually apply the bible to your life. You take it to heart and you speak about it by telling others (have all of them ready on your lips).

Proverbs 21:13
Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor
will also cry out and not be answered.
will also cry out and not be answered.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse is saying whoever ignores the poor will cry out at some point for some reason and they will be ignored for they ignored the poor.... So their cries will be unheard in other words....

Proverbs 20:10
Differing weights and differing measures—
the Lord detests them both.
the Lord detests them both.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse is saying it doesn't matter the sin, for they are equal as in the Lord detests them both. It don't matter how you committed the sin or why you committed the sin even if it was done in good intentions, etc. or the sin compared to someone elses sin that you may compare worse. The Lord is saying here that he weighs, (dislikes) all sin..... The word detest means to dislike someone or something very strongly. It hurts him. As I read from David Wilkerson that in a verse in the bible it says that: You nailed him to the cross meaning when we sin we should consider it talking to us this day since he was nailed to the cross for our sins.... So every time we sin it is like nailing him to the cross again.... How horrible? It makes you think and try harder not to sin....

Proverbs 19:20
Listen to advice and accept discipline,
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse means to openly accept advice and discipline for you will be counted among the wise in the end, meaning as far as judgement. Constructively accept advice along with discipline. Don't ignore it and not take it into your heart and mind. Listening to advice and discipline that is for your good will bring wisdom for it is kind of like constructive criticism to me, because it is something to construct you, change you, and make you for the better.

Proverbs 18:11
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
they imagine it a wall too high to scale.
they imagine it a wall too high to scale.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse is saying that the rich people think they have all in their wealth that nothing can compare to it. It is all they study sadly. It bothers me because most people who are considered "rich" are very unhappy and many think that money can buy happiness true happiness, it can't. I pray for those that look to their money to answer all their hopes and prayers, because it will not, it will only lead to destruction with pride. I'm not talking about the "rich" that donate, help the needy, and are true believers of God and live to serve him. However, most are the description of what I described above....

Proverbs 17:24
A discerning person keeps wisdom in view,
but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.
but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse is saying a discerning person always keeps wisdom, but a fool will look everywhere for whatever they are seeking. A discerning person will keep the bible to guide them, but also discern the truth for the truth and not listen or look to the earth for wisdom. A fool will seek it out in the world, whereas a person that discerns wisdom will keep it in mind at all times. We must be able to discern the truth from the false since there are many false teachers that are out in the world. We must not just sit in church on the pew and take the preachers word for what he says just because he is the preacher, we must check up on it for ourselves in the bible and make sure it lines up with the word of God and be able to discern the truth for ourselves. That is why we are given wisdom to be able to discern the truth.

Proverbs 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to get insight rather than silver!
to get insight rather than silver!
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse is saying it means so much more to have wisdom then gold, for gold is of no value compared to wisdom of the lord. It is much better to get insight than silver. Insight is to me seeing what is right, what should be done, the lords will for you, etc.

Proverbs 15:6
The house of the righteous contains great treasure,
but the income of the wicked brings ruin.
but the income of the wicked brings ruin.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
This verse tells me that the righteous people have a great treasure for they have the lord, but anything a wicked person brings as in income (not income from a job, but income as in what they bring forth as a person) is nothing but ruin, meaning no good.

Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
There are so many verses I would like to write about on this chapter. This verse says to me that being kind and speaking not out of anger will clam a situation, but speaking out of anger only stirs up anger and hostility and escalates the situation.

Proverbs 14:5
An honest witness does not deceive,
but a false witness pours out lies.
but a false witness pours out lies.
Davee H. from Mount Airy, NC said:
To me this verse means an honest witness will tell the truth and not deceive a person with lies, which will lead them not lead them astray. A false witness does nothing but tell lies.
