Numbers 21:9
So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

I believe this is a picture of Jesus on the cross. Daniel speaks of a vision of a man with arms and legs of bronze in Dan. 10:6, and in the book of Revelation we see it twice. First in 1:13-15 John speaks of "someone like a son of man.... with feet like bronze. Then again in 2:18, "These are the words of the Son of God.... whose feet are like burnished bronze." Jesus refers to himself as "the Son of Man" in Mt. 8:20, 8:38, 10:45 and many others. In John 1:34, John calls Him the Son of God and Paul calls Him the Son of God in Romans 1:4. So, clearly, the "Son of God" and "Son of Man" refers to Jesus Christ. So, look at this picture; those who are bitten by the snake die. The devil is also pictured as a serpent and in 1 Peter 1:8 we are told that he roams the earth seeking those he can devour. The devil (snake) brings death and destruction to those who disobey God. But those who look up at the bronze snake on the pole will live; and we are told in Hebrews 12:2, "let us fix our eyes on Jesus." Look up at Jesus on the cross and know that He will deliver you. In Ps. 25:15, David says... "My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only He will release my feet from the snare." When you're struggling under temptation from the evil one, remember to fix your eyes on Jesus and He will deliver you from temptation and reward you with everlasting life.

The bronze serpent is a symbol of sin that has been dealt with. The snake the symbol of evil and bronze in order to be made must go through the fire. Jesus became sin for us on the cross and looking to him we are saved. Thanks for your insight in bringing this together.

John 1:12
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

My earthly father disowned me from the time I was a little kid. I grew up not knowing love. As a police officer, I loved no one and truly believed that no one loved me. I was divorced for the second time when I met another officer who told me that God loved me and that, through Jesus, I could become a child of God. It changed my life forever.

How beautiful is that! Thanks for sharing your testimony Jack. i use John 1:12 when i share Christ with others. We have to receive the free gift of salvation. Jesus is the gift. We must receive Him as Lord, Savior and Friend.

Jack, you may like to read Romans 8:17 and 1 John 3 1-3. Basicly we are a child of God as you have said. God says we are His heirs and coheirs with Jesus. He frees us,gives us salvation and then claims us His heirs.
