Numbers 21:9
So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

As we know all throughout scripture all of God's word points to the Son of God, Jesus Christ. And why the Israelites died from a snake bite, because of the sin of disobedience and not trusting God which they did throughout the Old Testament. The Israelites came to Moses to confess their sin and asked for Gods mercy, and per Gods instruction to Moses, was to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole and lift it up. And this verse brings to my mind a new Testament Verse John 3: 14-15 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up.that anyone who believes may have Eternal Life in Him. The lifting up the snake in John 3: 14 indicates that serpent was a for shadowing of Him. Jesus, who takes away sin for anybody who looks to Him by Faith.

Excellent explanation Peter, with a perfect cross reference to New Testament comparison. We're looking forward to see how Will Graham's visit this weekend turns out. Praying for a tremendous drawing and outpouring of Holy Spirit. KidzFest tomorrow evening and adults Sat. and Sun. evenings. Appreciate your prayers for the event, Peter. Be interesting to compare Will with his grandfather, Billy, who's outreach I attended years ago in Toronto. Enjoy a blessed weekend brother Peter. :-)

"Look and live" was what the people were told that were bitten by the poisonous snakes. A bronze snake alone couldn't heal anyone but as they exercised faith God healed them. He is the Great Physician. Jesus told Nicodemus that this was a picture of what He would do for us on the cross. (John 3:14-15) We all have been bitten by sin and as we look to Jesus He is able to save us and give us eternal life!

As Christians we look to the Cross of Christ for Eternal Live. John 3: 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have Eternal Life in Him.

I believe this is a picture of Jesus on the cross. Daniel speaks of a vision of a man with arms and legs of bronze in Dan. 10:6, and in the book of Revelation we see it twice. First in 1:13-15 John speaks of "someone like a son of man.... with feet like bronze. Then again in 2:18, "These are the words of the Son of God.... whose feet are like burnished bronze." Jesus refers to himself as "the Son of Man" in Mt. 8:20, 8:38, 10:45 and many others. In John 1:34, John calls Him the Son of God and Paul calls Him the Son of God in Romans 1:4. So, clearly, the "Son of God" and "Son of Man" refers to Jesus Christ. So, look at this picture; those who are bitten by the snake die. The devil is also pictured as a serpent and in 1 Peter 1:8 we are told that he roams the earth seeking those he can devour. The devil (snake) brings death and destruction to those who disobey God. But those who look up at the bronze snake on the pole will live; and we are told in Hebrews 12:2, "let us fix our eyes on Jesus." Look up at Jesus on the cross and know that He will deliver you. In Ps. 25:15, David says... "My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only He will release my feet from the snare." When you're struggling under temptation from the evil one, remember to fix your eyes on Jesus and He will deliver you from temptation and reward you with everlasting life.

The bronze serpent is a symbol of sin that has been dealt with. The snake the symbol of evil and bronze in order to be made must go through the fire. Jesus became sin for us on the cross and looking to him we are saved. Thanks for your insight in bringing this together.
