This is truly a testament to the faithfulness of God. Mankind throughout history has been caught up in believing that it is by his own might that things are accomplished and then we take pride in that. However, God seems to become angry because of these falsities that man believes. Is it truly God's wrath that we are afraid of and suffer from? Or is it the punishment of our own sins that causes our grief? Doesn't really matter one way or the other because it ultimately results in the same thing and that is separation from God. One thing I know, when I turn from my own prideful selfish desires (repent) to the will of the living and powerful God He honors that. God ultimately backs those who back Him!

What an awesome way to worship the Lord with a covenant. A covenant is a promise that needs to come into fruition. The young man Hezekiah knew what it was that the Lord wanted and he also knew that there was a great sacrifice to be made by the people of Israel. I know in my own life though that I need not do things for the perceived benefit, but rather because it is right and good to do things for God!

Like Jotham, I know that if I walk steadfastly before the Lord, many wonderful things will come to pass for me and the members of my family and community. It is not so much that I am protected from adverse conditions, but walking steadfastly with the Lord my God enables me to overcome any and all obstacles in my path.
