2 Chronicles 32:26
Then Hezekiah repented of the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem; therefore the Lord 's wrath did not come on them during the days of Hezekiah.

Hezekiah messed up but when he recognized his sin and repented of his pride, the Lord forgave him and did not bring judgement upon him. A good word for us, when we mess up, confess and repent so as to be forgiven the judgement we should receive. Thank You, Lord, for Your patience and forgiveness when we confess. (1 John 1:9)

This is truly a testament to the faithfulness of God. Mankind throughout history has been caught up in believing that it is by his own might that things are accomplished and then we take pride in that. However, God seems to become angry because of these falsities that man believes. Is it truly God's wrath that we are afraid of and suffer from? Or is it the punishment of our own sins that causes our grief? Doesn't really matter one way or the other because it ultimately results in the same thing and that is separation from God. One thing I know, when I turn from my own prideful selfish desires (repent) to the will of the living and powerful God He honors that. God ultimately backs those who back Him!
