Leviticus 24:16
anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.

When reading this particular passage of scripture, I was quickly reminded of Job's wife and the "advice" she gave to her husband: Job 2:9 "Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die." Job's response was sound, it was a rebuke: Job 2:10 "But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips." We are shown many instances in the Word of God, what blasphemy is and why we should be careful not to commit such a sin. The edicts that were placed into effect during the Old Testament were those that showed the weight of a matter and the consequences to the matter which were just and quick. I have heard many people over the course of the last 15 years make a very serious statement; "I do not like the God of the Old Testament because He seemed to be cruel and uncaring." That statement is an egregious statement, especially when made by child of God. The Old Testament and New Testament God are one in the same and His ways are high above what we can fathom and He is a Just God. I apologize for jumping in here, however; I am very greatful to see that this type of Bible study is being offered by the Pocket Testament League. I am looking forward to participating as much as possible.
