What this verse says to me is that its not what we do or what acts we perform, none of those will make us better in God's eyes but by God's grace and mercy we are saved. All we have to do is believe in him and we are saved.

For me this means at the end of the day when others think that we not worthy of compassion, love or mercy. They will make their decision but the ultimate decision will be God's.

This means that God choose's who he wants to have mercy on. No matter what I do or how I do it, if God does not choose to show me mercy then it's his choice. And this gives me more to be thankful for because he doesn't have to show me mercy or have compassion for me. It really makes me feel loved and love him even more.
