Numbers 8: 1-2 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand. This was the menorah, the only light in the tabernacle. When the temple was built, the rabbis called it, "light of the world". I guess that's another reason they got so upset when Jesus said, "I'm the light of the world". Psalms 119:105 says thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. John 1 says in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, the Word was God and the Word became flesh and came to dwell among us full of grace and truth. Jesus and the Word are one in the same. So Jesus isn't just a light, He's THE Light. He's THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life, no one comes to the Father except thru Him. He lights the path to guide us to Himself and along the way of life, so we can stay on the narrow path that leads us to Heaven. Thank You Papa God for sending Jesus to die for my sins so I can spend forever with You in Heaven.

The lampstand itself does not give off light it has to have lamps placed around it to be seen. Just as the church does not light the world it provides a platform but showing the light of God comes from the lamps in other words people living out Godly lives showing the world the goodness and blessing God has for them. It's in everyday simple things that Gods love shines. We are the lamps to light the way to the church so that the world can learn of Gods love.
