Matthew 4:19
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."
Peter B. from Buchanan, MI said:
Here we see Jesus calling His first disciples, and we also see they didn't pursue Jesus He called them. This also reminds me that God calls us to be in a relationship with Him. He is calling us to teach and preach His word to a hurting world. Jesus challenges us to follow Him, and preach the Good News.

Matthew 4:19
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."
Nancy M. from Runnemede, NJ said:
Matthew 4:19 – We know from the Gospel of John that at this point Andrew and Peter already knew that Jesus was the Christ. Now Jesus is calling them to follow Him. First, we need to know who Jesus is then we will hear Him calling us. Andrew and Peter were casting their nets when Jesus calls them. James and John were preparing their nets when they heard Jesus calling them. Jesus did not say, come let me teach you how to fish for men, rather He said, I will make you fishers of men. When we follow Jesus, we will become fishers of men. Jesus will put that desire in our hearts to for others to know Jesus as we know Him. We are all beggars who found food. After tasting and see that the Lord is Good, it is our natural response is to tell others so that they too can come and receive eternal life. This reminds me of the 4 men with leprosy who were forbidden to enter the city of Jerusalem and the only food they received was the scraps that the people would throw over the wall for them. The famine at the time was so great that the 4 men were about to die. They decided their only hope was to go to the over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. When they got there, no one was there. “For the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!” So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives. The men who had leprosy reached the edge of the camp, entered one of the tents and ate and drank. Then they took silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also. Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace.”(2 Kings 7:6-9). Jesus, I thank You for calling me out of the darkness into Your beautiful light. I pray many others will also hear Your call and receive freely as I have.

This is a very meaningful verse to me. It reminds me of the night I was saved. After being convicted of my sin (reading Matthew 5,6,7) and saying "I'm sorry", and being cleansed, Jesus said "Follow Me" (Matthew 9:9) to me and I did ... now over 37 years ago. Thank you Lord for choosing me and inviting me to follow You in your kingdom and be your disciple and training me to make other disciples as you have commanded us.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."
Adele P. from Cathedral City, CA said:
"follow me" I like that who ever he calls to follow him, they dropped what they were doing and went with him. How did they know he was some one to leave their lives for befor they knew who he was. In our world to day, if a man came up to me and said " follow me I will make you a fisher of men". What in that moment would make me just go with no question. We have the Bible to tell us to follow Jesus, but it is not explained by Peter any where in the Bible what just made him know to follow Jesus.

In the King James version it reads: "And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." I like this verse because it tells us what we are to do if we say we are a child of God - we are to tell others about the salvation and redemption we can receive from Jesus if we just ask and believe.
