Matthew 13:23
But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Lloyd S.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
There are many who hear the truth of the word of God, and yet they choose not to listen and take it to heart. Lord, I pray that You would open the spiritual ears of those who have heard Your word and yet have ignored it. That You, Lord, would cause them to have ears to hear and eyes to see what You have in store for those who apply what they have heard to their lives.

Amen Lloyd the word of God has a powerful message of Salvation and Repentance. As the message of Salvation and Repentance is proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Do not drift from the Truth of Gods word. Hallelujah Our God Reigns!

Being a Christian means that I have a responsibility to study the word, pray to God, give thanks for all that I have been given to steward and spread the word of God to others. I can only do this if I have a solid foundation in my relationship with Jesus. I need to continually grow and keep myself close to the scriptures and follow the laws of God.

I have a better understanding of this verse now. "...the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown". I will explain like this...my husband and I were talking a couple of days, reminscing about our spiritual journey. And I said to him, 'I remember when I was trying to learn the books of the bible in the correct order. I would write them down, flip over the paper, and try reciting them. It would stick for maybe for a month, tops. But when I started to read and study the books, its contents, the books flowed together and now, it's in there. I understand it (i.e.how at the end of Genesis, Joseph prophesied the exodus of God's people, so next book they Exodus, in Exodus the people begged for the law and it was given to Moses and Levites in charge of the law, continued in Leviticus, etc.) And now because I know it, I understand it, I can successful teach it to others, producing a crop. And as they receive it and understand it, the crop now yields a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Praise God for His Word, wisdom, and understanding.

Veronica, Your explaination of this verse has given me new understanding. I have understood another meaning and I believe that both could be right. I had thought that the seed on good ground was the Word of God that was heard by people who God have given the faith to believe. They had accepted the Free Gift of Salvation " and were saved unto good works, which God prepard in advance for us to do."( Eph.2:10) May God Bless you and your study of His Word.

Oh Don, I believe we have the same view and are saying the same thing. I just have a tendacy to take the "scenic route" :). When I first started reading the Word of God, it was more so remembering it, then I would read it again to gain a deeper understanding. And during that period in searching for a workable knowledge of God's Word, He has helped me by focusing on just Him and me. This is where I am currently. I am allowing God to "spoon feed" me and making His Word very personal to me. As I had written in one of my earlier posts, I have an "eager spirit", quick to speak, and quick to action (something like Peter, I guess :)). Though I do understand the pro's of this nature, I am thanking God for helping me with the con's. I too often look at the "big" picture and attempt to work it out from there and have minimal results. God is showing and proving to me that if I take the time to listen and follow His voice, that He will do all the work and always yield a bountiful crop. So now instead of going out and "seeking" to save the lost in places I think they are lost, I spend more time with God; listening, asking questions and following what I understand. It is truly transforming the way I think. And I am finding that once again the scriptures are true-as a man thinketh so is he/ whatever is in his heart, comes out of his mouth. So in essence, God has and continues to show me the best way to show I have received the free gift of salvation is to use it and enjoy the benefits of it now, not only in my next life. And as people see this wonderful life, this wonderful relationship with God, they will be drawn to the light, inquire of it, then I can share my testimony that God so freely gave to me. Thank you Don, for you insights and post, they are truly a blessing. And may God continue to bless you, enrich you and increase your territory. To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
