Mark 3:5
He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

Mark 3:5 – I have a friend that cannot open her one hand. She told me as a kid growing up she would always hide her hand behind her back because she was embarrassed about it. All of us try to keep hidden anything about us that is different from the rest. In verse 3, “Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.” I don’t know this man’ personality type but most people hate to have to stand up in front of a larger crowd especially when you don’t know what is going to happen next. Jesus then tells the man to stretch his hand. I know if it were me, I would stretch out my good hand. Jesus many times calls us to be vulnerable to show our trust in Him. If Jesus is calling us to show the world our difference or our weakness, it is always for a good reason whether we can see that or not. We must be obedient to our Lord so that His name will be glorified. There is no better thing to do than bring glory to our Lord. If He should choose to heal us in the process that is icing on the cake. Father in Heaven, where I am weak, show Yourself strong.

Mark 2 Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Mark 2:27 – The Pharisees knew the letter of the law but not the spirit of the law. They added rules to the Sabbath and it became a burden to keep the Sabbath by their standards. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. He made the Sabbath to bless man, not curse man. The Sabbath was a day for the Jew to rest, spend time with family and most of all spend time with God. We need rest physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The Sabbath was to give and enhance life. Man was created to give God pleasure. God desires a relationship with us, not a religion. Since the Pharisees did not have a relationship with the Lord, they could not understand any of this. Jesus, You did not come to call the righteous, but sinners like me and for that I am eternally grateful.

I was touched by the word "distressed". Jesus always distressed at us who are evil and sin. Faced with their stubborn hearts, he was not got anger but distressed. He is concern for our weakness but in gentle ways.

That Jesus being a man as we are has the same emotions and at times is disgusted with our response and actions to what He has commanded us to do.

Stretch out your hand. How could a man with a shriveled hand stretch it out? Only by faith. The man did his best to be obedient to Jesus. Jesus did the rest. Lord I ask You for that obediance.
