"Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.

This whole chapter speak s volumes to me. One thing that I have learned is that being rich does not make you happy, havig all the material things of this world does not mean nothing...Our riches are in the realtionship that we have in God, the humility that we have as Chrsistians is more than silver and gold!

Sadly, the church has often preached that you need to be poor (financially) to be holy but if we look at what Jesus is truly saying here, is that we don't have to be poor, hungry and weeping to be righteous. These things bring blessings only as they are endured through discipleship for Jesus' sake. (v.22) In this passage poverty of spirit, hungering after righteousness, weeping over one's sins are sources of blessing. The term "poor" refers to humble poor, who's trust is in God's help in the midst of their poverty, referring to being humble. (Matt. 5:3) God bless, Brandy.
