Leviticus 3:17
" 'This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live: You must not eat any fat or any blood.' "

The final statement to the Israelites here being, "You must not eat any fat or any blood" as it was to be an offering to the Lord, and no one was to consume those portions of the animal, the internal organs, the fat or the blood. The blood was to be spread on the sides of the alter, and the organs and fat were to be burned on the alter as a sacrifice to the Lord. Praise God that we do not have to do such things today since the sacrifice of Christ on the cross was the ultimate and eternal sacrifice, at which time when Christ died, the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom, indicating that it was God who tore the veil, so that now we could enter the presence of God through the sacrifice of Christ. Before this no one was allowed into the presence of the inner court where the ark was, except the priest. Mark 15:38  And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

Jesus through His sacrifice on the cross, changed the whole lasting ordinance of sacrifices in the Temple for sin. He was the once an for all the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Be Blest in your Spiritual walk with the Lord. Can't believe in 2 more weeks it will be September.

The fat was in those times considered a delicacy and represents giving our best to God. The blood represents giving our life to God. It interesting that the same things today give us health issues. The fat and blood of red meet. God gave us his best and Jesus shed his blood for so that we may be at peace with him. This is something I am working on giving my life to God and letting him be in control.

Hopefully we are all working on that. Good point about the fat and the blood. Many times we think God is holding out the best for Himself, but really He is looking out for our BEST interest.

This chapter stirs some thinking. It tells us three times that the long lobe of the liver is to be burned with the kidneys and this verse says we are not to eat fat or blood. I know people do eat blood sausage, which never appealed to me anyway so have never even tried it. It states here that we are not to eat any fat. Does this mean we must take all fat from meat even before cooking it. Pretty hard to not eat any fat when it is on and in meat. Perhaps we are not to eat fat by itself. It also makes me wonder if we are not to eat liver either. Guess I need to do some research. Pondering......

In reading the further comments, Walter L. referred to the Scripture, Neh 8:10 which may well explain what the Lord was meaning here, that what was meant was the fat of the internal organs. Makes more sense to me. Thank you Walter.

Good points Lloyd. I thought of this too... what if we eat a donut that is loaded with fat? I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, but I think I need to research this too, but fat around internal organs make more sence to me because even with our modern cutting machinary is not 100% effective in removing all fat from meat.

This entire chapter talks about how God not only wants a perfect sacrifice, but he doesn't like fat! He gives specific instructions for a perfect animal sacrifice. I chose this verse because I used it a few times when the "Jehovah's Witnesses" come knocking at your door and a conversation may get started about their "no blood transfusion practice". They point to a few verses but their strongest "proof text" is also in Leviticus - Lev 17:10-12 which explain that they "shall not eat blood." The JW are nutorious for reading the bible with "eisegesis" - a fancy way of saying rather reading scripture for what it really means the give it their own interpetation of the verse i.e. Lev 17:10 is talking about ANIMAL blood, not human blood. So when they bring this topic to your door and "prove it to you" by reading Lev 17:10, simply tell them to hold that page and read Lev 3:17. Then ask them, when was the last time you ate fat? Do you see how these verseses when read IN CONTEXT is talking about animal blood and not human blood? Just planting one seed of doubt may pave the way for another believer to water it.

For sure on the reading into it their own interpretation, Bruno.. Their bible (so called) is a totally a false interpretation. If they ever come to Christ, and read the true Bible, they'd be a dynamic force for Christ and spreading the gospel. Still praying Bruno. God bless.

God was telling the people that the fat and blood are to be offered as a pleasing aroma to Him. Today, we know that animal organs and fats are unhealthy for human consumption. It shortens our life span. Thank you God for the love You have us even in our sinful state.

God bless you all. I believe that we as the body of Christ and children of God should obey what the Lord said in this verse: You must not eat any fat or any blood. My opinion in regards to the fat of the meat is that if our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit then we should be taking care of our bodies and eating fat is not healthy to us, but clogs our arteries. The life it self is in the blood cause the Word of God does say that. God bless you and thanks for reading
