The alter is the table of the Lord. Salt was always used when the Lord ate with them so it is only right to salt the grain offering. It is called the salt if the covenant because men confirmed their covenants by eating and drinking together..

Salt does preserve . It keeps things together. When salt is added it reminded them that God will be Faithful. Grain offering shows God's goodness, He will not forget His Promises to Abraham.

In Arab countries, an agreement was sealed with a gift of salt, to show the strenght and permanence of the contrtract. In Matthew 5:13, believers are called "the salt of the earth.". Let the salt you use each day remind you that you are now one of God's covenant people who actively help preserve and purify the world.

All of the grain offerings were to be seasoned with salt. Salt was precious and of great value.
For me, today's verse, along with Matthew 5:13, means that a Christian's life and testimony is of great value to the world. How else will sinners hear about Jesus if Christians don't live as ambassadors for the Christ we represent?
"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

Salt. Common to those of us who live in developed cuntries. In fact, it is too common is all our processed foods. But salt, that enhancer of favours and preserver of foods, was once a precious item. In fact it was often used as currency. Again, the Children of Israel are reminded that things offered back to God are to be first rate, the best because He is the best. They are not to skimp on their offerings and in return God does not skimp on anything that He provides. So how does that affect me, today. We are to be the salt of the earth but That can only happen when we have the protector / preserver within us, the Holy Spirit. He enhances all the things we do, when we allow (add) Him to the mix. When we cannot seem to find the words to talk to God, the Spirit reads and knows are hearts and He present our petitions to God through Christ.

Salt added flavor to the offerings, it made them pleasing to the LORD. The salt of the covenant of God was His holiness. When the Israelites brought offerings, they were to remember God's instructions as to what should be offered and how it should be prepared and presented. As long as they obeyed His words, the offerings were acceptable unto Him.
Today we must remember that God is still holy and should be revered as such.

“Moses obeyed God's instructions exactly as he received them. This verse…”
