"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When anyone among you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.

We see that the offering was a live animal, without blemish, slaughtered before the Lord as a sacrifice representing the future sacrifice of Christ, who was put to death on the cross of Calvary, who also was without fault or blemish. Thank You Lord, for Your willing sacrifice in my/our place to pay for my/our sins. Amen

Amen Lloyd, we both agree that Leviticus 1 the beginning of the blood sacrifice performed by the priests of the Temple, points directly to the Sacrifice of Christ, as you stated without fault or blemish. Grace and Peace on this Lords Day.

Leviticus 1: 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you brings an offering unto the LORD, you shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock. There were 5 different types of sacrifices the people did back in this time. 1st, which is what this chapter describes, was the burnt offering, which was the whole animal which recognizes that we are to surrender all of us, not just a tenth or any portion. They could bring a bull, a sheep, a goat, or turtledoves depending upon their financial situation. Somebody with a lot of money can offer a cow but somebody with not much money probably didn't even own a cow or even a sheep or a goat, so they could go and hunt a turtle dove and bring it. As a matter of fact, Jesus parents brought turtle doves when they brought Him to the temple. The whole thing seems so very bloody, brutal and cruel to take an innocent animal and kill it because of our sin. The cross was bloody, brutal and cruel. An innocent man died a horrible death because of our sin. Hebrews 9 tells us without the shedding of blood, there's no remission of sin. Gods gift of eternal life is free, to us, but it wasn't cheap, it cost Him EVERYTHING. When Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane, He sweat drops of blood, knowing He was headed for a horrible punishment that He didn't deserve. He said, Father if there's ANY other way, let this cup pass from me, but not My will, but Yours be done. A lot of people say, "all roads lead to Heaven". But, if that were the case, do you think God would've allowed His ONLY begotten Son to go thru that HORRIBLE death? Of course not! So, by rejecting Gods free gift, we're thumbing our nose at God and saying, no thanks, I'll pay my own way by being good. But Romans 3:10 says there's none righteous, not one. Sin separates us from God. We try turning over a new leaf or turning our life around, but that sin never goes away. Isaiah 53:6 says all we like sheep have gone astray, each has gone his own way, but the Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Jesus took all our sin, buried it in the sea of His forgiveness, remembers them no more and puts up a "no fishin'" sign, then you can have a beautiful relationship with God thru the person of Jesus Christ that you receive by faith. Not head knowledge, believing facts about Jesus, or temporary faith like praying for safety when you're going on a trip or healing when you're sick, but transferring your trust from being a good person to only what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross, asking God to forgive you of your sin and asking Jesus to come into your heart to be your Lord, Saviour and forever friend. If you're reading this, and haven't done that, just say this prayer: Lord Jesus, I know I'm a sinner and can't save myself. Thank You for dying on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. Forgive me of my sins, and come into my heart to be my Lord, Saviour and forever friend. Help me to follow You all the days of my life, Amen. If you prayed that prayer, please let us all know by commenting so we can rejoice with you. Then, get involved in a good bible believing church, start reading the book of John in the New Testament, praying, nothing fancy, just talk to Him in a conversational way. Now, go tell other people how they, too, can have the free gift of eternal life. PS: if you don't have a bible, you can read it free online at: biblegateway.com they even have an audio version you can listen to, if you like. God bless.

The Israelites were in a special relationship with Yahweh. God, as opposed to the false gods of the surrounding nations, actually speaks to His people. He told them what He expected from them as a covenant member of the Mosaic Covenant. The various laws/rituals concerning sacrifice were actually a blessing for the people of Israel as they knew exactly what God expected, as opposed to the other nations, always wondering if their gods were angry, upset, pleased and what they needed to do to please these unknownable dieties.

Nothing really speaks to me in this chapter. Only that Moses spoke to the Israelities told them how and what to do to make an offering to the Lord. They where a lucky people that they could show God how much they loved him with their offerings. God is wonderfull that he excepts us with all our flaws. He never turns his back on us. Thank you God for that.

God provides specific instructions to Moses for the Israelites to follow for bringing an offering to Him. When the Israelites follow His instructions to the letter the offering is pleasing to the Lord. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, God is pleased with us too. Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice so our sins are forgiven.

What I like here is that throughout the exodus, God has appointed Himself a representative to speak to the Isrealites. Unlike today, no one was getting their own special word. They were all on one accord, hearing the same thing through one person who was hearing directly from God. It was in the box of Exodus where we read when God told Moses to write down what had occurred during the battle with the Amelikites as a memorial for Joshua who went on to be one of the greatest military commanders in biblical times. What I'm trying to say is for today, listen to the man of God and what you don't hear from him, seek it in the inspired word of God.
