God hears our cries but if we go to hin in arrogance and have not humbled ourselves the work our affliction or oppression has not finished its work in us.

How many times do you hear of atheists who yell things out to God in sarcastic tones and then attempt to "prove" to their audience that God doesn't exist? I remember hearing the story years ago of some Russian cosmonauts who bragged that they had been to space and didn't see God. One preacher came back and said, "You may not have seen God but if you went on a space walk without your oxygen you would have met Him in a hurry!"

In this verse I think Elihu may be taunting Job a bit; why else would He submit to Job's suffering? Doubt is a sour and lingering drink. The evil one desires to plant the seed of doubt int he hearts of the righteous even when the use of a friend as the messanger is necessary. Belief, faith, and confidence are necessary tools to fend off the invitation of doubt and dispair. Remembering our Master is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords; He hears each prayer and all in His time.
