God,s word to Baruch is a strong message for people today, as Christians we live in a materialistic world, we need to consider the words of God to Baruch, Not To Seek Great Things for Our Selves, like worldly Riches and worldly Honor, "For(earthly)riches are not forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations." Proverbs 27: 24. We should seek God First, Others Second, Ourselves Last.

Well expressed, Peter. Certainly seeking the Lord should be our first priority. Nothing wrong with wealth as long as it doesn't become our god, which many have and still do. Great things can be done for the Lord with wealth but surely should not be our priority. Have never been wealthy myself but I do recall in my early walk with Christ, I was always a couple hundred in the hole at month end and wondered how I could give to the Lord's work. I decided to do that first and I recall very well how in a couple of months I was no longer in the hole, and never have been since. I have no idea how He did it but I realized it very quickly. God is so good. Blessings, Peter.

So many times I would search for great things. Amazingly enough I would always come out on top.

It appears obvious that Baruch is a part of God's plan and has instructed him not to seek things for himself but has assured him that wherever he goes, he will escape with his life. Lord, I ask that You would help me to fulfill Your plan for my life and be attentive to Your direction for me. Amen

Yes, Kim, seeking our own desires can sometimes hurt those around us more than us. Welcome to our forum, we're glad you're here, keep coming back. God bless

One of the greatest lessons that I have learned since becoming a Christian is that anytime I do anything to glorify myself and not to bring lorry and honor to God, I fail miserably, no matter how simple the task may be. As the Apostle Paul instructs us in Colossians 3:23-24 "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." .

Jeremiah asked Baruch, a young man just getting started in the world, willing to serve God and his prophet, to write and read his prophecies for him. Baruch was quite scholarly and was probably excited about getting started in a promising career, and using this opportunity as part of his glowing resume. But it didn't turn out that way. He was rudely awakened by the contempt he received by his audience. Once again I'm seeing a correlation with America. The world is going to hell in a hand basket, Jeremiah wants to warn everyone and this guy tho not a dishonorable man, is looking for a future for himself, not realizing that with no future for his country there's no future for him. Everyone needed to stop drinking the koolaid (listening to the health and prosperity teaching of the modern day false prophets) and wake up. Baruch wasn't going to "live well and prosper" he was going to merely escape with his life. As I see this ramping up of evil in and how it all seems to be leading to the strong delusion God tells us about in 2 Thessalonians 2 that Satan with all power, signs, lying wonders, deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they don't receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. God's going to send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: and be damned who won't believe the truth, but take pleasure in unrighteousness. And in Romans 1: 28 that because they didn't like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting, listing all the evil things I see going on all around me today. People doing as Isaiah said in 29:16 turning things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Please. Papa God, let me keep my peace among all this, stay upright in You and occupy till you come, fulfilling Your great commission to be a witness for You in all ways at all times, in Jesus name, Amen Btw: I thought you folks would like to know that I went to visit my mom's neighbor, Lucinda, shared the gospel with her and she prayed to receive Christ. Her husband's job is taking them to Miami for several months. Please pray that she finds a good Bible believing/teaching church to get involved in down there

Should you then seek great things for yourself?(Matthew 6: 25-27 "Therefore I tell you do not worry about your life, what you eat or drink; or about your body, what you wear. Is not life more then food, and the body more then clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they.) Do not seek them.(Matthew 6: 33-34 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(34) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.) For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.' " (Jeremiah 21:9 Whoever stays in the city will die by the sword, famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live: they will escape with their lives) again some key words here Seek and Trust- Seek Gods Love and Repentance and Trust in Him for everything.
