Jeremiah 34:17
"Therefore this is what the Lord says: You have not obeyed me; you have not proclaimed freedom to your own people. So I now proclaim 'freedom' for you, declares the Lord —'freedom' to fall by the sword, plague and famine. I will make you abhorrent to all the kingdoms of the earth.

The people did what was right before the Lord and freed their slaves. However, they then turned against the command of the Lord and took their slaves back into bondage and slavery, and would now pay with their own lives for disobeying the Lord. It is not wise to obey and then turn around and go against what God originally designated. Lord, help me/us to follow Your commands, that You will always keep Your promises to us. Mat 6:9  Therefore pray in this way: Our Father, who is in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (10)  Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. (11)  Give us this day our daily bread; (12)  and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors. (13)  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

We have freedom, but choose not to apply it, so the freedom defaults to the evils of the world. We see a lot of that these days!

This, to me, is a definite indication that once saved, always saved is not a correct assumption. The Israelites had made a covenant with the Lord, just as we have made one with Him by receiving Christ's sacrifice on the cross but if we break that covanent and go back to our old ways, then our salvation is null and void. We, just as the Israelites did, can turn our backs on that covenant and be once again lost and in danger of perishing, just as the Israel was turned over to the hand of their enemies for slaughter. Lord, help us as believers, never to turn our backs on You and forget that You have given us salvation through Jesus Christ, as we confessed and repented of our sins but if we turn back to our sins, You will also abandon Your portion of that covanent and allow us to perish. Amen

Yes, but I believe it still refers to forsaking our covenant at salvation. In the same context Jerry commented on v. 18 with the same train of thought. If Israel had fallen away from their covanent with God and were killed they would surely perish. They could have repented and returned to Gmyselfod who was and still is forgiving if we repent, even a second time or more but there's no indication that they did. Jerry commented on v. 18 in the same context and his comment was very similar to mine. I do not believe, once saved always saved if we walk away from the path, Donna. God bless.

Lloyd are you calling yourself God? GmyselfOD! or are you saying that you are in God. maybe a better way to spell it would be GLloydOD. GNancyOD (me in God) and NaGODncy (God in me)

God, in His patience, compassion and mercy, actually caused the Babylonian army to secede from their attack on them when they let the slaves go free. He was so slow to anger and so swift to show mercy that He was ready to put a stop to his judgments, upon the first instance of reformation. As soon as they let their servants go free, God let them go free. These people's hearts were so hard that they just didn't get it. Soon as the impending disaster was thwarted, they, returned to their greedy money grubbing ways. Just like after 911, the churches were filled over capacity, but there was no true repentance, and people quickly went back to life as usual. God’s compassions towards us should cause us to have compassion toward others, but people get caught up in their own selfish wants and desires and don't think about much else. Too many folks look at the Bible as a book of stories and suggestions, to adhere to if and when it's convenient.   Anyone that thinks they can outsmart God with crocodile tears of repentance, a fallacious covenant, and a partial temporary reformation, will prove in the end to have been outsmarted themselves. Jesus said what does it profit for someone to gain the whole world and lose their soul. Be not deceived; God is not mocked what God has spoken, He will surely bring to pass. It may not happen immediately like Anninais and Saphira, but judgement will surely take place. Papa God, please give me swift judgement for my actions that I may repent here and now, rather than stand before You at the final judgement with some stupid sin that I chose to hang onto for some stupid selfish reason.
