James 3:9
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness.
Lloyd S.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
The tongue can be an instrument of blessing or an instrument of cursing and it is so easy to use it as a curse, as we see the things going on in the world around us. It is learning process when we come to Christ, to see that our tongue is used as an instrument of blessing and not cursing. As we grow in Christ we learn to control what comes from our tongue. Lord, help me, as a believer in Christ, to always watch what my tongue speaks so that it is a blessing and not a curse. Amen

Peter B. from Buchanan, MI said:
Well explained Lloyd, human words are very powerful, and our tongues are small but can cause great havoc. But as sinful people that we are our tongues are untameable. And as Christians we do stumble, in this chapter I believe James is describing the weakness of a Christian. For God so loved the world that He gave His Only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not Perish but have Everlasting Life

We cannot praise God and then turn around and be nasty and hateful to other humans. We are made in the likeness of God and are called to be like him. He never cursed others only loved them.

Proverbs 13:3 Those who guard their lips Preserve their Lives, but those who speak Rashly will come to ruin.

This verse is a good reminder, that if I praise God and then turn around and speak harshly about a fellow human being, it is not pleasing to God. Now there are times when that is a difficult thing to control, at least for me. There are so many people doing evil in the world and even in our communities that it is difficult not to lash out at them. Yet, the Lord says to love your enemies as yourself. (Matt 5:44)

I am so guilty of careless words about people with whom I disagree, in effect, judging them. This verse reminds me to watch my tongue, and learn to control it as completely as possible. I pray on this daily.

How true this verse is. Even though we may try not to curse our fellow human beings we do it carelessly and out of the other side of our mouths we praise God, Do we stop and think how this make God feel? Let us try harder to please God and speak kindly or our fellow human beings.

This is a very strong reminder to me to keep a civil tounge in my head. I am not here to judge others. Sometimes I catch myself mid sentence. I am so glad that our God loves me and is a forgiving God, as I need his forgiveness daily

My heart breaks and I cringe whenever I hear people criticize themselves or judge others. Do you not know that we were All created in God's likeness? Even you? Do you not know that we are all His workmanship? We are each, God's masterpiece! Fearfully and wonderfully made. Yes, Satan has curupted and distorted parts of us all thru sin, abuse, offences and resentments BUT that does not disquaify us from being God's beautiful and unique creation. It was GOD who created each of us with the freedom to choose sin. But it was also GOD who created us with a mind that can reason, analyze and weigh the cost of life and death. Be carefull what you say to yourself or others, that when you critisize or pass a judgment, that you are not critiqing or judging the Creator.
