This is a great verse as we approach Resurrection Sunday. Christ called out from the cross at the separation that sin and death caused before Father God. Christ died in our place, and destroyed the power of the evil one satan and his power over death/sin. Death was defeated at the on Resurrection Sunday. Free From The Slavery Of Sin Amen and Amen

Key words I believe here is "held in slavery by the Fear of Death." And in the previous verse satan had the wielding power of death, the fear of death because of sin, as sin makes us all slaves. But as Christians submission to Christ, who died for our sins, who through His shed Blood set us free from the slavery of sin.

We often live in fear of death, not just our physical death but the death of eras/moments, those around us, changes in our lives which are often frightening. We need to trust God through all of these deaths, knowing that he has freed us from this slavery.

...held in slavery by their fear... Slavery with shackels keeps people from the freedom to do and pursue and experience so many things. Fear is slavery of the mind. It keeps us from speaking in public, or just speaking out and giving witness to someone. It keeps us from using our talents to serve God. I can sing halfway decent, but my fear keeps my voice from God and others. It is time to put fear in a box, lock it and lay it at my Lord's feet.
